The rate at which people share information (profound and profane alike) on sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is staggering. 137 million status updates per day appear on Facebook, 230 million tweets are shared per day on Twitter and 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute — all numbers which increase daily. No doubt, social media is alive and well.

Groupon and American Express put ‘double-digit’ million euro sum into payments startup SumUp

Financial services giant American Express and recovering daily deals company Groupon have banded together to inject an undisclosed amount of cash (though it's apparently a 'double-digit million Euro' round) in European digital payments firm SumUp.

Deutsche Telekom Wins Dismissal of $791 Million Data Lawsuit

Deutsche Telekom AG (DTE) won dismissal of a lawsuit by the founders of Telegate AG (TGT) seeking 612 million euros ($791 million) over claims the phone company overcharged for directory data.
Klaus Harisch and Peter Wuensch can't claim compensation, the Cologne Regional Court ruled today.

Google Glass: facial recognition coming soon

The controversial Google Glass computer can now recognise who you are talking to thanks to a new 'hack'.
The new software from Lamda Labs, who are based in San Francisco, raises the prospect of never forgetting a face again, and also of internet recommendations for who Google Glass wearers should meet at large social gatherings. It will launch to computer programmers in days.

Almost a year ago to the day (May 29, 2012), I wrote a column related to Google's Penguin (1.0) update and its impact on local search sites, Internet Yellow Pages (IYPs) specifically. So I thought that with the announcement and implementation of Google Penguin 2.0, it would be interesting to revisit how the first algorithm change actually impacted IYPs and local search sites over the past year.
