Google Updates Earth With “Tour Guide” & More 3D Imagery

Google has released a new desktop version of Google Earth (version 7) that includes features previously released in its mobile version. The new desktop features include what Google calls a “tour guide” for more than 11,000 locations in over 110 countries and regions, and more 3D imagery for several cities around the world.

Google launches voice assistant to take on Siri

Google has released an update to its search app that includes voice recognition, putting it in competition with Apple's digital assistant Siri.
Early reviews suggest that the software is fast and accurate.
The release comes in the same week that Apple ousted its senior vice president of iOS software Scott Forstall, who was in charge of Siri.

Yandex’s Q3 2012: Revenues up 43% year-on-year to $235.2m, profit up 34% to $74.2 million

Russian Internet giant Yandex has seen revenues rise by 41% year-on-year in its unaudited Q3 2012 financial results, just released.
The Moscow-based company is reporting revenues of RUR 7.3 billion ($235.2 million), up 41% compared with the same quarter last year. Income from operations is up 43% year-on-year, at $82.3 million. Profit for Q3 is RUR 2.3 billion ($74.2 million), up year-on-year.

Baidu in 60% income rise as advertising revenues surge

Baidu, China's biggest search engine, has reported a 60% rise in quarterly net income to 3.01bn yuan ($478m; £299m) compared to last year.
Baidu said its income jumped in the three months ending 30 September, as the company continued to attract increasing amounts of advertising.

Hibu could be sued by some lenders over debt payment suspension

Last week the company behind the business directory announced it is stopping payments to its lenders as it gets to grip with its £2bn debt pile.
However, not all lenders are happy with this decision, and some are threatening to sue the company if they don't pay up the £65m owed from a 2006 loan which should have been paid back in full today.

A Framework for European Crowdfunding lays out a plan for how new regulation, education programs and research could strengthen crowdfunding’s place in the EU economy, helping SMEs to raise capital and create jobs.

When Nirvana was cool!
Rewind to the late 90s. Almost everything you needed – email, news, sports, stocks, maps and more – was conveniently on one site: Yahoo!. Yahoo! was the “portal” to the Internet that strived to deliver everything you could ever want on its own properties.
The crazy thing is how successful Yahoo! was at this. Few, if any, have ever done content or media online at that scale.

Belgacom raises forecast for revenue to grow 1% in 2012

Increased consumer spending on data offsets regulatory impact for Belgian incumbent.
Belgacom SA, the Belgian telecoms operator in which the state holds a controlling stake, raised its full-year guidance Friday and said revenue had risen in the third quarter as individual consumers' use offset the impact of regulation.
