The unstoppable rise of smartphones and tablets will see 1.2 billion of the devices being bought worldwide next year, analyst Gartner is predicting. It also forecasts sales of 821 million of the smart devices this year — which is says will account for 70 percent of total devices sold in 2012.

Russian Internet giant Yandex rolls out mapping service for Europe and the US

Russian Internet firm Yandex has released a basic maps service covering Europe and the United States at its global portal Yandex.com and its Turkish version as a basis for future improvements.
Although there is still no link to the Maps section from the main Yandex.com homepage, the service is already up and running, offering essential functions such as city/country search and route planning (available only for the US). The company promises to add more geographical services in the near future.

The Danish telco TDC has unveiled a new strategy for the 2013-2015 period. Under the headline ‘We Connect You To The Future’, TDC says it will be concentrating on five key areas: to focus on customer value management; to develop and sell integrated solutions; to leverage its brand portfolio; to invest in customer service and network/IT; and to continue its focus on cost savings.

Belgacom introduces commercial 4G services

Belgium’s largest mobile network operator by subscribers, Belgacom, has announced that it has inaugurated commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in eight locations, those being: Hasselt, Antwerp, Ghent, Leuven, Liege, Namur, Mons, Waver and the Haasrode Industrial Park.

APPLE’S share of the tablet market has fallen from two thirds to 50.4pc as rival Samsung experiences huge growth.
Apple's tablet market share has dropped to 50.4pc in the third quarter of 2012, down from 65.4pc in the previous quarter, according to new figures.

Google's market share 'dips below 90%' in UK

Search giant Google has dropped to its lowest percentage of the UK market share in five years, Experian Hitwise, a firm that monitors web traffic, says.
October figures released by the company suggest 89.33% of all web searches in the UK were made using Google.

KPN share price below EUR 5: drastic times call for drastic measures

KPN's share price is trapped in a downward spiral. On 02 November, it closed at EUR 4.83, down from a peak of EUR 12.35 in October 2010 and showing a clear downward trend from around EUR 12 in March 2011. The arrival of America Movil as a shareholder, which built up its 28 percent stake at a price of around EUR 8 per share, has not proven any help. Ziggo, which has offered since 2011 an alternative for Dutch investors, has at the same time shown a steadily rising trend since its listing in March 2011, despite the price recently taking a hit after disappointing growth figures for Q3.
