Deals marketplace WhaleShark Media buys French online coupon firm Miwim

WhaleShark Media, an Austin, Texas-based company that aims to create a truly global marketplace for coupons and deals (with backing from Google Ventures, J.P. Morgan and multiple VC firms), has invaded France.
WhaleShark this morning announced that it has purchased Miwim, a French company that operates online coupon site ‘Bons de réduction’, cash-back site Poulpeo and more.

Even in these recessionary times, advertisers who maintained their directory ad programs experienced an increase in calls, profit and return on investment. A recent Patek analytics study looked at directory ads published between 2008-2011, comprised of 1572 ad programs, spanning 86 headings. Groupon Rewards Launches Nationwide, Driving Repeat Business For Local Merchants

Groupon announced the nationwide launch of Groupon Rewards, an easy-to-use loyalty program for merchants that enables them to offer customers special Rewards for repeat business. After a successful pilot program in Philadelphia, Groupon Rewards is now open to U.S. merchants, regardless of whether or not the business has previously run a Groupon deal.

At its extraordinary General Assembly in Brussels on 11 May, the members of EADP - the European Association of Directory and Database Publishers decided to change the name their association to European Association of Search and Database Publishing — EASDP - and to adopt a new tag-line: “We provide Europe with contacts and business information”.

Qype, The Yelp Of Europe, Claims Top Dog Status With 860,000 Places Reviewed, Expands Daily Deals

Just as we get news of some consolidation in the local content market in the UK, some news of expansion, too: Qype, the Yelp of Europe (and Yelp’s closest competitor in the region), today announced that the number of places reviewed on its site has reached 860,000, with the number of monthly unique visitors now numbering 25 million. It claims that this makes it the biggest reviews site in the region, about five times bigger than its closest competitor, the U.S.-based Yelp.

The New Yellow Pages: "Local is Where We Play/Shop/Live"

The quaint old Yellow Pages have evolved into YP.com, and what may be North America’s largest local search, media and advertising company. YP Holdings LLC (“YP”) combines the assets of AT&T Advertising Solutions and AT&T Interactive. YP Holdings launched yesterday with the closing of a 53% controlling interest in the company by Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. (“Cerberus”). Industry blogger Greg Sterling of Screenwerk described the transaction as YP being “jettisoned from the mothership” (AT&T).

Deutsche Telekom revenues drop 1.3%, EBITDA down 4.6%

Deutsche Telekom reports revenues of EUR 14.43 billion for the first quarter of 2012, down by 1.3 percent compared with the same quarter in 2011. The quarterly EBIT dropped by 4.6 percent to EUR 1.743 billion and the adjusted EBITDA amounted to EUR 4.48 billion down 0.1 percentage point year-on-year. This leads to an adjusted EDITDA margin of 31.0 percent, 0.4 percentage points higher than one year before.
