Weakness at fixed-line business and regulatory intervention in mobile affected Polish telco's results.
Telekomunikacja Polska SA, Poland's largest telecommunications operator, said Wednesday that second-quarter net profit fell 74% from a year earlier, when the figure was inflated by a gain from an asset sale, while revenue shrank and the weaker zloty this year dented margins on smartphone sales.

Google 'agrees EU antitrust settlement' over market dominance

GOOGLE and the European Commission have agreed the outlines of a settlement to end the two-year investigation into the internet giant's dominance of the search market.
The details of the deal have not been finalised but among the proposals are thought to be significant changes to the way Google ranks search results, sources suggest.

Apple often gets a lot of love in Europe, but in the last quarter that wasn’t enough to help it against the tide of economic woe hitting the region. In today’s Q3 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook described sales in the region as “essentially flat to slightly positive” — and, not unlike the wider macro-economy, “that really hampered our total results.”

Google Internet business defies econ worries, ad clicks surge

Google Inc's core Internet business increased revenue by 21 percent in the second quarter, easing Wall Street worries that a slumping global economy would take a toll on the company's online advertising.
Shares of the world's No.1 search engine were up about 3 percent in after hours trade.

Baidu profits jump as online advertising boom continues

China's largest internet search engine Baidu, has reported a 70% jump in profits in the second quarter, amid continued growth in its advertising revenue.The firm reported a net profit of 2.8bn yuan ($436m; £282m) in the three months to the end of June.
Its advertising revenue rose almost 60% during the period to 5.5bn yuan.

What happened to the theory that Facebook Credits would become a universal virtual currency, competing against the likes of PayPal and others? Facebook very quietly closed the program down a few weeks ago, reverting to a more standard model that enabled spending and credits to be made with local currencies around the world (similar to an iTunes account).
